Gezondheidsexperts riepen de overheid op om de NHS de tijd te geven om een boosterprogramma voor de Covid-19-vaccins voor te bereiden.
Daarnaast heeft de vicevoorzitter van de Gemengde Commissie voor Vaccinatie en Immunisatie zijn bezorgdheid geuit dat griep deze winter een “groter probleem” zou kunnen zijn dan Covid.
De Britse regering maakt zich zorgen of de uitrol van het Covid-19- en griepvaccin gelijktijdig kan plaatsvinden en of ze op elkaar zullen reageren.
Matt Hancock, de minister van Volksgezondheid van de regering, zei dat er momenteel proeven worden gedaan om griep- en Covid-vaccins samen te geven.
Hancock vertelde aan BBC News: "Als we de resultaten van dat onderzoek (naar het mengen van vaccins) kennen, zullen we in het najaar de volledige plannen voor het boosterprogramma uiteenzetten."
Terwijl de overheid aandringt op herhalingsvaccinaties en vaccinatie van het hele Verenigd Koninkrijk, lijken de "doorbraakgevallen" van Covid wereldwijd toe te nemen.
In Indonesië, meer dan 350 artsen en medisch personeel zijn positief getest op Covid-19, ondanks dat ze volledig gevaccineerd zijnwaaruit blijkt dat het vaccin totaal niet effectief is in het bieden van immuniteit tegen het virus.
